LESS THAN 50 IN THE UNITED STATES...And probably less than 30!! Ultra-rare BMW Z1. Only 8,000 units produced, world-wide, from 1989 - 1991. Of this 8,000 units, 6,000 were sold in Germany. This particular Z1 was first retailed on July 18th, 1989 in TOP ROT RED (Paint Code 257) and was delivered with BMWs venerable M20 2.5 liter (engine #21706859). Spokane BMW acquired the car from a private seller and imported it into the United States, through customs and into Washington State where it is titled. Originally, we inspected this Z1 finding it have a misfire and a leaking radiator as well as a (very) sloppy shifter. In addition, its exhaust manifold gaskets were perishing. The radiator was subsequently replaced as well as the entire ignition system (cap, rotor, wires & plugs). The timing belt and tensioner pulley were also addressed at this time. At that point our shop began effecting the replacement of the cylinder head at which time two of the studs on the cylinder head broke off upon removal. Subsequently, it was then decided to drop the entire drivetrain of the car so that the cylinder head could be removed as well as accessing the transmission shifter--to that end an aftermarket short-shift kit was sourced for the Getrag 265 and it was installed therein. While the drivetrain was out, the valve were adjusted upon the cylinder heads return from the machine shop and the entire drivetrain was returned to the car (pictures & videos available). A brake fluid flush, transmission fluid & oil changes were also performed and finally, four wheel alignment & wheel balancing were completed to end the shop reconditioning of this historic Z1. Convertible top actuates perfectly and its rear window is in perfect/clear condition. No anomalies and new-owner ready.
